The early 2000s established Rockstar Games as one of the world's leading video game developers, owing largely to the runaway success of the Grand Theft Auto trilogy of games on the PlayStation 2. Because of the high bar set by previous Grand Theft Auto games, there is a lot of anticipation for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6, but the game has yet to be announced as of this writing.

Rockstar Games has not officially announced Grand Theft Auto 6, so there is no official information about the game. However, while official details on Grand Theft Auto 6 and what it may entail are scarce, fans have continued to speculate about what the game will be like. But it isn't just fans who are speculating. Jamie King, a co-founder of Rockstar Games who left the company in 2006, speculated that the next game in the series might lose some of its edge.

King speculated in an interview with YouTuber Killazspain that the "tone" of Grand Theft Auto 6 might be different from previous games in the series. He went on to say that this could imply that Grand Theft Auto 6 is "not quite as edgy or funny."

As of now, fans know nothing officially about Grand Theft Auto 6, but some reputable leakers have revealed some details that could very well turn out to be true. According to the leaks, Grand Theft Auto 6 will be set in Vice City and will feature a female playable protagonist. GTA 6 may feature two protagonists (one male, one female) that players can switch between, similar to how Grand Theft Auto 5 featured three protagonists.

Details about the Grand Theft Auto 6 online multiplayer component have also been leaked, with leakers claiming that the game will feature an evolving map, similar to Fortnite. Whether or not these claims are true remains to be seen, and with no Grand Theft Auto 6 announcement in sight, fans are likely to have to wait years to find out one way or the other.

When it comes to Grand Theft Auto 6, GTA fans will have to wait a long time. In the meantime, they might want to check out the next-gen ports of Grand Theft Auto 5, which are set to release in March 2022.

The release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 has yet to be announced.
